2024 MLK Banquet

January 14, 2024 11:30 p.m.

The Self Culture Club hosted the 35th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Banquet at El Dorado High School Saturday night. The formal banquet centered, as the name implies, around the work and legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. The banquet is generally held the weekend before the MLK Day holiday, which is today. This year, the theme for the SCC’s MLK Day activities, which also included a parade and concert held yesterday, was “Living the Dream…It starts with me.” Honorees included Community Service Award winner Orlando D. Reed, Youth Honoree Dontae Stringfellow, Jr., and Adult of the Year Janis Van Hook. The guest speaker for the evening was Dr. Ezinne Nwude, a local medical doctor and co-owner of three medical clinics in south Arkansas including the Gold Cross Family Clinic.
