Lady Dragons win at Emerson

EMERSON - Jess Thurmon hurled a complete game Tuesday in Junction City’s 10-1 win at Emerson. The Lady Dragons improved to 9-5 with the non-conference win.

Thurmon allowed one run on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings.

Junction City had eight hits, led by Emilee Bovee, who went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored.

The game was knotted at 1-1 before the Lady Dragons scored six runs in the fourth inning. De’Nyah Brown doubled and scored when Makayla Knight’s fly ball was misplayed. Zamya Cunningham doubled home a run. With two outs, Karla Castillo singled in a run and stole two bases. Thurmon walked and Castillo stole home. Bovee drove in a run with a single and a run scored when Valarie Kidwell’s grounder to short was misplayed.

Junction City pushed across three in the sixth. Castillo was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Thurmon’s single. Bovee doubled home a run and Raylynn Massey drove in a run with a single.

The Lady Dragons drew first blood with a run in the top of the first on Bovee’s two-out, RBI single.

Castillo scored three runs and stole four bases.
