PARKERS CHAPEL - Freshman Ava Walker struck out 10 batters Tuesday to lead Smackover past Parkers Chapel 6-4 in non-conference softball action at Swilley Field. The Lady Bucks improved to 4-2 while the Lady Trojans fell to 2-2.
Smackover led 5-1 through four innings behind Walker, who finally ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth. Bella Frisby singled and Reaux McAuliffe walked with both scoring on Tatum Watson’s 2-run triple. Emily Camacho came in from centerfield to pitch and the lefty got out of the inning with a strikeout and a ground out.
The Lady Bucks got a run back in the seventh when A’Olani Baugus walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The Lady Trojans touched Camacho for a run in the bottom of the inning. McAuliffe reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on Watson’s single.
With the tying run at the plate, Smackover ended the game when Makenzie Morgan lined out to second.
The Lady Bucks had six runs on four hits while committing just one error. The Lady Trojans scored four runs on 10 hits but committed seven errors.
Walker pitched 4 ⅓ innings, allowing three runs with a walk and the 10 strikeouts. Camacho pitched 2 ⅔ innings, surrendering one run on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts.
McKenzie Norris started in the circle for Parkers Chapel. She threw four innings, allowing five runs on three hits with five walks and two strikeouts. Carlee Cater threw three innings, giving up one run on one hit with two walks, two hit batters and three strikeouts.
Smackover scored two runs in the first when Camacho singled and Presley Ainsworth walked. Camacho scored on an error before courtesy runner Alyssa Hubbard got into a rundown between third and home and scored when the throw ricocheted off her helmet.
The Lady Bucks added a run in the second when Walker walked and Chloe Lewis doubled. Abby Brewer drove in the run from third with a ground ball to second.
Parkers Chapel got a run back in the bottom of the second. Addalyn Adams doubled and scored on Cater’s single.
Smackover tallied single runs in the third and fourth. Two errors and two walks led to the third inning score. After a pair of walks and errors in the fourth, Camacho drove in a run with a fielder’s choice for a 5-1 advantage.
Adams gunned down two runners trying to steal in the third. In the sixth, PC’s Brookelynn Porter made a running catch near the foul line to rob Brewer.
Frisby and Adams had three hits apiece for the Lady Trojans. Watson had two hits and three RBI.
Lewis had two hits for Smackover.
