El Dorado’s Zach McMillon won the senior boys’ division of the Wildcat Invitational Saturday morning at South Arkansas Regional Airport. The junior set a meet record and course record with his winning time of 16:38. He broke the old course record of 17:15, set by Dalton Jones of Genoa Central in 2020.
McMillon also lowered his own school record for the course, beating the 17:29 he set last season.
“He ran an excellent race from the gun to the finish,” said El Dorado coach John Koonce. “He ran an excellent first mile and never let off. The closest guy to him was 40 seconds behind him so he had to be disciplined and do it all himself. He has been looking forward to this meet for a long time and he certainly stepped up today.”
McMillon has won every race in which he’s competed this season except one. He said this race was special.
“The record meant a lot to me because I have had my eye set on the record for a few years now,” he said. “Last year I was about 15 seconds off the record and this year, to beat it by 30 seconds and get a massive PR was really nice.”
