El Dorado experiencing large internet outage

Optimum fiber Internet customers in El Dorado, Parkers Chapel and the surrounding areas woke up without service this morning after an alleged incidence of vandalism.

An Optimum worker who was busy working to restore service Monday morning said a length of fiber cable had been cut from elevated power poles along 19th Street. He said the incident occurred around 3 a.m. Monday morning.

At 11:30 a.m., more than 4,500 customers in Union County were without Internet service.

El Dorado Police Lt. Andrew Russell said the incident had not been reported to the EPD. Union County Sheriff Ricky Roberts did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the incident.

An estimated time of service restoration was not immediately available.

This is a developing story. The News-Times will provide updates as they become available.
