El Dorado man dies after September wreck

An El Dorado man has died after being injured in a car wreck in central Arkansas last month.

According to the Arkansas State Police, Charles Young, 76, of El Dorado has passed away, his death having resulted from an accident that occurred on Sept. 19.

A preliminary accident report from the ASP states that Charles Young was a passenger in Devin Young's 2007 Infiniti, which was headed north on Interstate 530, near the 9 mile marker on the day of the accident.

The ASP reports that shortly before 1 p.m., the Youngs' vehicle crossed the center line, went through a cable barrier and struck 24-year-old James Quenzer's 2009 Ford, which was southbound.

Quenzer, of Scott, and Devin Young, 42, were both injured in the accident as well.

Weather and road conditions were reportedly clear and dry at the time of the accident.

This was the 399th accident to occur on an Arkansas highway so far this year, and Charles Young was the 437th person killed in such an accident in 2023.

Charles Young was the fifth person from Union County to be killed in a traffic accident this year.

On September 3, Cam'ron R. Arredondo, 21, of El Dorado was killed in a single-vehicle accident. Terry S. Sanders, 60, died in a motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 167 on August 25. On May 11, Jimmy Owens, 63, of El Dorado was killed when his vehicle struck a tree. Kevin S. Dore, 67, of Smackover was killed in a single-vehicle accident on May 2.
