Chamber planning ribbon cuttings at SouthArk, Wal-Mart and more

The El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce is holding ribbon cuttings this month for a variety of businesses, ranging from an international giant to small, locally-owned enterprises.

Already this month, the Chamber's held one ribbon cutting at Ike's Scooter Rentals in downtown El Dorado.

Chamber staff on Monday hosted representatives from Upchurch Telecom for a ribbon cutting held at the Chamber. According to information provided by Karen Hicks, Chamber VP of membership and events, Uptel is based in Greenwood, Mississippi and offers services including telecommunications, security, networking and cabling.

On Wednesday, South Arkansas College will formally open its new college spirit store on campus. Hicks noted that SouthArk gear is now also available online, at southark.getugear.com.

Heath Waldrop, marketing director for the college, said the store is now being operated by a third-party. It's now called the SouthArk Gear Shop.

"We contracted with a third party for our textbook sales; that's online," Waldrop said. "So that opened up the old bookstore space and we contracted with (University Gear Shop) to operate a spirit store."

Superior Senior Care, an in-home care agency, will have a ribbon cutting on Thursday, Nov. 9. Founded in 1985 in Hot Springs, Superior Senior Care has since expanded its operations significantly; in addition to El Dorado, it provides home health services in Bradley, Calhoun, Cleveland, Columbia, Dallas and Ouchita counties, according to information provided by Hicks.

Later this month, on Nov. 17, Wal-Mart will officially hold its grand reopening. Their ribbon cutting was previously scheduled for Nov. 3, but was postponed Friday.

According to information provided by Hicks, Wal-Mart's ribbon cutting is open to the public, and the event will include a street fair in the store parking lot, with vendors present.

Hicks said in October that the ribbon cutting at Wal-Mart will focus on the store's new renovations, specifically those geared toward the Wal-Mart+ shopping experience. Wal-Mart+ is the company's new premium shopping experience, offering same-day delivery, early access shopping and more for members, according to Wal-Mart's website.

To round out the month, the Chamber will hold a ribbon cutting on Nov. 20 at a new three-in-one clinic in Junction City, where offices of the Junction City Medical Clinic, At Ease Counseling and Small Town OT – family practice, mental health and occupational therapy practices, respectively – are located.
