PC rallies for win; Lady Bucks cruise

PARKERS CHAPEL - Parkers Chapel staged a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh and edged Fordyce 8-7 Tuesday. The Lady Trojans improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Trailing 7-5, Bella Frisby hit a two-out double and scored on Tatum Watson’s single. After Reaux McAuliffe singled, Kallie Martin ended the game with a two-run single.

“I’m so proud of this group for not giving up. I tell them all of the time to play until the 21st out and that’s exactly what they did tonight,” said PC coach Justin Welch. “The team’s energy was amazing throughout the whole game. I actually could feel it building up and that something great was about to happen and it did.”

The Lady Bugs took the lead with three runs in the sixth on four hits, including Melanie Castillo’s RBI double. Fordyce added one more in the top of the seventh against Martin, who was relieved with runners on second and third and one out.

Freshman Carlee Cater entered the game and got a line out to first and a strikeout swinging to end the inning.

Martin gave up eight hits and four walks with eight strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

“Kallie had pitched a great game and I think that she started to get a little winded in the top of the seventh. She also took a throw off of her forearm during the inning which didn’t help the situation,” said Welch. “But when I called CC’s name to start getting warmed up, I could see the confidence in her eyes. She was ready for that moment and she didn’t disappoint. She came in and held them scoreless, which set the plate for that incredible comeback. That was a huge moment in the game.

“I’m so proud of both pitchers tonight. We just need to keep building on the momentum of this game.”

Fordyce scored two in the first on Castillo’s two-run double. The Lady Trojans answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs on a walk and two errors.

PC took the lead in the third when Frisby singled, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Watson’s ground out.

Fordyce tied the game in the top of the fifth but the Lady Trojans scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Makenzie Morgan walked and Frisby reached on an error. Morgan was score on a passed ball and Frisby touched home after an error.

Parkers Chapel had seven hits and committed three errors. Frisby and Martin had two hits apiece. Fordyce had eight hits and four errors.

Parkers Chapel hosts Junction City on Friday in a key league matchup.

“With this year’s conference format, the double round robin without a district tournament, this win was enormous,” said Welch. “I feel like we have to win all of our home games then go out and get some tough road victories to set us up for the possibility of playing in the postseason. That’s just the way it is.

“Our conference is really talented this year so it’s going to be a real challenge.”
