Downtown Smackover will be transformed into an outdoor bazaar on Saturday, as small business owners and craftspeople from across the region descend on the town for the annual Smackover Trade Days event.

Rhanda Wright, owner of The Speckled Rooster in downtown Smackover, organizes the event with her business partner Lisa Lindsey.

Wright said that Saturday's event is shaping up to be the biggest in its almost five-year history.

"As of [Monday] we have over 30 booths - probably about 34 - and four food vendors. The businesses on Broadway will also be open and having sales," Wright said.

Broadway Street in Smackover will be blocked off "from the traffic light to the four way stop," allowing plenty of space for shoppers to browse.

Wright said she expects vendors from Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas selling items including antiques, handmade crafts, furniture, jewelry and more.

"We'll have lots of locals but also have [vendors] come from everywhere," Wright said.

The Medical Center of South Arkansas and the Ouachita County Medical Center are also teaming up, Wright said, to set up a large inflatable representation of the human brain at the event meant to teach about how the brain works.

Booths are $25 and Wright said those who wish to participate can reach out to her at the Speckled Rooster, 870-590-5088 or on the store's Facebook page.

Trade Days is set to take place on April 1 from 9 to 4 p.m.
