Smackover, Junction City pick up wins

JUNCTION CITY - Allie Thurmon and Kalani Noble both homered and Karla Castillo carried a shutout into the seventh Monday as Junction City settled for a 9-2 win over Harmony Grove.

The Lady Dragons improved to 8-3 on the season.

Junction City pounded out 12 hits in the game while Castillo held the Lady Hornets to just two. Castillo struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in seven innings.

The Lady Dragons scored three in the first, three in the fifth and three in the sixth. In the first, Thurmon tripled and Gracie Brown walked before Castillo stroked a two-run single. After Emilee Bovee singled, Jess Thurmon plated a run with a hit. In the fifth, Brown and Noble singled and Castillo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bovee drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and two runs scored when Paulesha Bolton’s grounder was misplayed.

Allie Thurmon led off the sixth with a solo homer to right. After Brown reached on an error, Noble launched a two-run homer to leftfield.

Allie Thurmon, Jess Thurmon, Castillo, Noble and Bovee had two hits apiece.

HERMITAGE 4

SMACKOVER - The Lady Bucks scored 11 runs in the first inning and ran away to a non-conference win over the Lady Hermits on Monday. Smackover improved to 6-4 on the season.

After Hermitage scored four runs in the top of the first, the Lady Bucks answered with 11 in the bottom of the inning on seven hits and seven walks. 

Julia James had two bases-loaded walks in the inning while Sydney Preston and A’Olani Baugus each walked home runs. Jaylyn Crawford and Gretchen Goodwin both hit two-run singles and Baugus drove in a run with a hit.

Presley Ainsworth hit a two-run double in Smackover’s seven-run second inning. James had a RBI triple and Preston batted in a run with a single.

Smackover added a run in the third when Emily Camacho singled and courtesy runner Caydee Holloway scored on a hit by Ainsworth.

Alyssa Hubbard started in the circle for the Lady Bucks and surrendered four runs on one hit with a walk and a strikeout in one inning. Camacho pitched the next two innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts.

Smackover had 13 hits, led by Ainsworth, who was 3-for-3. Taylor Darden, Camacho and Baugus had two hits apiece. Baugus, Crawford, Preston and James had three RBIs each.
