Lyda “Jo” Canterberry, 89, of El Dorado, Arkansas, went into her eternal home on March 21, 2023.

Jo was born in Delight, Arkansas on May 9, 1933, the day to which she shared with her late granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Faulkner Bradham. She was born to Mary Hill Dowdle and Curtis Dowdle of Delight, Arkansas.

After high school, Jo moved to El Dorado, and soon, met the love of her life, Chuck Canterberry. They married on September 28, 1956. Jo began working at Lion Oil until the adoption of their first son, Curtis. A few years later, they adopted their daughter, Debra. Once the children started school, she went back to work at Stuarts Incorporated for many years.

Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Debra (David) Faulkner of El Dorado; grandson Bryce (Malorie) Faulkner of El Dorado; sister, Joy (Bobby) McLemore of El Dorado; brothers, Leon (Virginia) Dowdle of Texarkana, Bob (Norma) Dowdle of Malvern; she was a beloved “Memaw” to her beautiful grandchildren, Paxton and River Bradham, Jye and Ryn Faulkner all of El Dorado; and she is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews who adored their “Aunt Jo”. She left behind her special group of Ladies, Pat Chapman, Glenna Wynne, Ann Langley, and Janette Moore. Together they shared daily calls and memories of each other.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 44 years, M.C. “Chuck” Canterberry, son, Curtis Canterberry; granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Faulkner Bradham; and brother, Gerald Dowdle of Delight, Arkansas.

One of her greatest joys was being a part of Operation Christmas Child at Immanuel Baptist Church since 1995. Her heart was captured by filling shoe boxes for children around the world. She would travel to many OCC distribution centers to help pack boxes and share the love of Christ with children around the world.

She also enjoyed serving in her Joy Sunday School Class. She was the president of the class and made sure she kept the class informed and under control.

Jo was known as the alteration lady in El Dorado. She made many lasting friendships through her love for sewing.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023 with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
