El Dorado wins pair of games at Monticello tourney

MONTICELLO – Just hours after a tough conference defeat, El Dorado bounced back with a pair of wins on Saturday at the Monticello Tournament.

The Wildcats topped Buffalo Island Central 10-0 before downing McGehee 21-6.

Hunter Lawrence fired a two-hit shutout and struck out 11 in the Wildcats’ win over Buffalo Island Central. He walked one.

The Wildcats scored three runs in the first and seven in the second en route to victory.

El Dorado had eight hits from seven different players in the game with Justin Dumas going 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs to lead the way. Dumas opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning, and he picked up a painful RBI in the second by getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Lawrence helped himself by driving in a run with a ground out in the first along with a run-scoring single in the second.

Sam York also got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second, and the Wildcats got the remainder of their scoring in the frame on a Jake Webster-Moore walk with the bases loaded, a two-run single by Mitchell Polk and a sacrifice fly by Shadarious Plummer.

In their win over McGehee, the Wildcats scored 11 runs in the first inning and banged out 16 hits with seven of those hits being doubles.

Five players had multi-hit games with Webster-Moore going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, while Dumas had two of El Dorado’s seven doubles as part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate. He scored three runs and drove in one run.

After collecting two RBIs in the opener, Lawrence drove in two more runs by going 2-for-3 with a double. He scored two runs. Holden Lowry and York also had two hits in the game.

Xorian Robinson singled, drew three walks and drove in three runs in the win.

Trey Murphy drove in two runs for El Dorado, while Plummer, York, Jonah Davis and Peyton Howard all had one RBI.

Daniel Roblee, the Wildcats’ starter, went the first two innings. He allowed three hits and four runs with three being earned along with three walks and two strikeouts.

Ethan Darden worked two hitless frames out of the bullpen with two walks and three strikeouts.

Braden Austin allowed two runs with one being earned in the fifth to finish off the Owls. He gave up three hits, didn’t issue any walks and had one strikeout.

The Wildcats (7-3) hit the road to take on Monticello Monday with game time set for 3 p.m.
