El Dorado's comeback bid falls short against Sheridan

Earlier this week, El Dorado jumped out a 4-0 lead en route to a road victory at Sheridan.

In the rematch on Friday at the El Dorado/Union County Recreation Complex, it was the Yellowjackets who jumped out to a sizable lead before hanging on to win, as Sheridan topped El Dorado 7-5 in a 5A South clash.

Sheridan jumped out to a 7-1 lead before the Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Grant Thomas worked scoreless sixth and seventh innings as part of a three-inning stint out of the bullpen to seal the victory.

Holden Lowry took the loss after working 1 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and five runs along with four walks and one strikeout.

Sam York went 3 1/3 innings in relief, allowing four hits and two runs with one being earned. He walked two and struck out three.

Jonah Davis struck out one in two hitless innings in relief.

Down 6-0 in the fourth, the Wildcats got on the scoreboard on a two-out double by Jake Webster-Moore that scored York, who walked to start the frame.

Sheridan restored their six-run lead in the fifth, but the Wildcats continued to chip away in the bottom half of the frame.

El Dorado loaded the bases on singles by Shadarious Plummer, Lowry and York, and one out later, Hunter Lawrence doubled home a pair of runs to make it 7-3.

Webster-Moore then drove in his second run of the game with a sacrifice fly, which also allowed Lawrence to advance to third.

That play loomed large moments later when Xorian Robinson reached on an infield single that scored Lawrence to make it 7-5, but EHS would draw no closer.

Lowry went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Wildcats, who had nine hits in the game.

Webster-Moore and Lawrence each had two RBIs for EHS.

The Wildcats (5-3, 4-2) hit the road on Saturday for games against Buffalo Island Central and McGehee at Monticello.
